Subconscious power is something that needs great attention but gets little. It is the huge iceberg that hides below the surface of your thoughts and self-talk.
What you say in your head has very little power unless it is activating emotions. And when that does happen, too often those emotions come from negative past experiences that are being referenced to give meaning to the present. Subconscious power matters because it tells you to run away from make-believe circumstances that aren’t going to hurt you like your memories show you were hurt at one time.
What that really means is that your brain is looking for anything that has the potential to harm you. But it doesn’t understand the meaning of here and now or make believe or that a memory isn’t happening right now. It just says, “Go! Run!”
And so stress chemicals flood your body and more negative associations are made.
We know that the brain makes associations so sometimes it can simply be the color of someone’s clothes or the tone of their voice that causes your brain to reference information it thinks is related to what is going on in the present.
When those memories have some painful emotions attached, your brain sends a message that says there could be some danger involved and you need to move away from it as quickly as possible.
That is why it is so important to heal old wounds and strip your negative memories of their subconscious power that motivates you to take actions that don’t move you closer to your goals.
